چکیده

Amide derivatives of L-alanine and e-caprolactam were readily obtained on diaminefunctionalized oxidized single-walled and pristine multi-walled carbon nanotubes through a onestep direct amidation reaction, which employs thermal activation at 160–200 uC instead of chemical activation, avoids the use of organic solvents, and requires a few hours only for completion. In the case of e-caprolactam, amino groups attached to the nanotubes initiated polymerization into Nylon 6. The functionalized nanotubes were characterized by infrared and Raman spectroscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry.

Preparation of Surface Adsorbed and Impregnated Multi-walled Carbon Nanotube/Nylon-6 Nanofiber Composites and Investigation of their Gas Sensing Ability

We have prepared electrospun Nylon-6 nanofibers via electrospinning, and adsorbed multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) onto the surface of Nylon-6 fibers using Triton(®) X-100 to form a MWCNTs/Nylon-6 nanofiber composite. The dispersed MWCNTs have been found to be stable in hexafluoroisopropanol for several months without precipitation. A MWCNTs/Nylon-6 nanofiber composite based chemical sens...

Catalytic Effects of Carbon Nanotubes on Complexation of Some Amino Acids via Cobalt Cation Catalyst

In this research, investigation of the adsorption isotherms and the effect of solution conditions such as pH and concentration of complexation of some amino acids with cobalt(II) nitrate six-hydrate upon multi-wall type carbon nanotube (CNT) were done. The adsorption capacity of complexation of amino acids onto the surface of carbon nanotube increased with the pH from acidic to alkaline. At pH ...

Green Biosynthesis of Silver Functionalized Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes, Using Satureja Hortensis L Water Extract and Its Bactericidal Activity

Green biosynthesis of silver - functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotube (Ag/FMWCNT) nanohybride from silver nitrate solution using water extract of Satureja hortensis L as reducing agent and FMWCNT as anchoring agent at room condition was succesfully carried out. Water-soluble organics present in the plant materials were mainly responsible for the reduction of silver ions to nano-sized Ag par...

Effect of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polyamide-6/Polypropylene Composites for Lightweight Automotive Parts

The development of lightweight automotive parts is an important issue for improving the efficiency of vehicles. Polymer composites have been widely applied to reduce weight and improve mechanical properties by mixing polymers with carbon fibers, glass fibers, and carbon nanotubes. Polypropylene (PP) has been added to carbon fiber-reinforced nylon-6 (CF/PA6) composite to achieve further weight r...

Increasing Mechanical Properties of 2-D-Structured Electrospun Nylon 6 Non-Woven Fiber Mats

Tensile strength, Young's modulus, and toughness of electrospun nylon 6 non-woven fiber mats were improved by increasing individual nanofiber strength and fiber-fiber load sharing. Single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were used as reinforcement to increase the strength of the electrospun nylon 6 nanofibers. Young's modulus, tensile strength, and toughness of the nylon 6 non-woven fiber mats el...
